Does it ALWAYS have to rain when we camp?

On our way home from picking up our trailer in Ohio, we found that we really enjoyed the KOA campground experience. It just so happened that our local KOA was having special pricing to help raise money for the KOA Care Camps program. Thinking it would be a fun getaway, I should have known that it would rain! Luckily it didn't rain the entire time though!
In our normal fashion, we arrived later than I would have preferred but Matt had to work that day and it was a long day for him. We picked up the trailer and headed to the campground. We were welcomed by a very nice gentleman at the desk and then were told that someone would lead us to our site. We waited....and waited...no one showed. My husband, being the impatient man that he is, set off toward our site without assistance. We found it with no problems and hooked up everything. The night was pretty much over at that point so we each nestled into our beds and promptly fell asleep.
I was looking forward to the breakfast that the campsite advertised on a leaflet that was given to us the night before. I rounded everyone up and shuffled them our the door toward Liberty Lodge. It was a beautiful building and it may have even contributed to my high expectations for the day. We walked up to a woman at the register and there in front of her was the menu. If you like pancakes or scrambled eggs, then this was your place because you weren't getting much of anything else. I ordered pancakes with strawberries and the kids ordered chocolate chip pancakes. Matt decided to be different and he ordered eggs, toast and hash browns with his pancakes. We each ordered drinks, OJ, chocolate milk and coffee. I do not drink coffee but Matt does and he made out the best since he had free refills. The rest of us were handed little dixie cups with our drinks in them. Mine was OJ and to make it worse, it wasn't even full. Now if it was free, I wouldn't be complaining but it was far from free. The 2/3 filled dixie cup cost me $1.75!! Overall it was the worst breakfast I have ever had to pay $30 for. To add to it, the woman working there didn't crack a smile even once the entire time we were there. She looked like she hated every second of her job. I didn't finish my meal and ended up leaving to take Tristan back to the trailer.
The rest of the day was uneventful. We relaxed for the most part. Trinity's dad showed up and offered to watch Trinity and Tristan, who was asleep at the time, so Matt, Triton and I could go have dinner together. We found this wonderful little Italian restaurant, Bella Rosa. I had my usual Chicken Alfredo and Matt chose his usual, Chicken Marsala. Absolutely divine food and great staff there as well. I am glad that we found this place. I will be going back again, especially since it is only about ten miles from the house!
We found free wood while we were out and loaded it up in the Excursion with every intention of building a fire when we returned home. I give Matt all the credit in the world as he earnestly attempted to make a fire with green pine wood. That wood was wetter that the rain that was about to fall but we refused to pay $1 per log from the campground. Our neighboring campers took pity on us and brought over some of their logs and started us a real fire. It was really rolling and I just knew that meant it was time for it to rain. Isn't that always the way? We enjoyed our fire long enough to toast one marshmallow. Better than nothing I suppose!!

Then came the rain.....

Luckily by this point our day was pretty much over anyway but still! I prefer to wake up to dry conditions myself. However, Mother Nature had other plans for my Sunday morning.
It really wasn't to bad by the time we were getting ready to leave. Thankfully the rain had passed through the area and the skies were clear again. It's never that easy with us though. Something needed to go wrong here.....and it did. Matt saved the day on this one though. We had a sewer hookup at our site but for some reason Matt decided he would hook it up but leave the valve closed so that everything was still in the tank. His plans were to dump it right before leaving. The campground's sewer system had another idea. It decided that it was going to get clogged so that we couldn't dump. Another person had tried to dump theirs and noticed it coming up in another campsite....this suddenly made me glad that our campsite was at the top of the hill!! It wasn't a big disaster since they had another dump station but it was a hold up in our day. Matt just took us all home and then came back for the trailer later since there was a line at the dump station anyway.
So a basically uneventful weekend but it was a nice break from seeing the white walls of our apartment. I do have a few more pictures that I will share with you but I need to get them off of my camera. There are no official plans to go anywhere this weekend but the place where we have the trailer stored is having an event this weekend that we may check out. Should I just assume now that it will rain?

So, question for you all. Where is the US have you travelled that you absolutely loved the most? Leave a comment for me below. I would love to hear about YOUR adventures too!

  1. Hey girl, When you and the family make it to Texas you gotta check out Brazoz Bend State Park. I love it there!! I spent many nights camping there when I was younger. The kids would love it. There is RV spots, places for tents and cabins that can be rented. The deer there will eat right out of your hand. You can go hiking or check out the alligators or you can just hang out around the camp ground. I believe its 5000 acres. Check it out!! I hope the weather is better next time and you get better service. The picture of Tristan is soooo cute!!!
